So, I watched 21 Jump Street tonight…

I actually enjoyed it WAY more than I thought I would. Jonah Hill actually didn’t annoy me in this, Channing Tatum is actually pretty cool, and all the cameos were great (I think I caught all of them, and that’s without ever having actually seen the series).

I think what I loved the most about the movie was the abundance of trope subversions. Every time you think something’s gonna happen, because “been there done that” in a comedy and/or action flick, it doesn’t happen. It was very refreshing.

There was also just the right amount of meta in it. There are some great subtle cracks at the movie in the dialogue that were balanced just right; not TOO subtle, but subtle enough that it didn’t seem out of place where the lines were said.

All in all, I actually really enjoyed the movie. Who’dathunk?
